Senior Connections (formerly Boone County Council on Aging) is honored to be recognized as a Community Champion by the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois. The award celebrates organizations that demonstrate exceptional commitment, leadership and impact in strengthening our community. We are grateful to be included among this year’s honorees.
For nearly five decades, Senior Connections has served as a lifeline for older adults, caregivers and families across our region, offering transportation, activities, in-home support, information assistance and – most importantly – human connection. This award recognition affirms the belief that connection is essential to dignity, independence and quality of life.
“This award belongs to our entire Senior Connections family,” said Kelly Hillan, Executive Director. “Our staff, volunteers and Board of Directors bring compassion, professionalism and heart to their work every day. We are grateful that the Community Foundation recognizes the importance of supporting older adults and their caregivers – and the power of building and sustaining meaningful connections for such important residents of our community.”
The Community Champion Award also reflects the strength of partnerships that make Senior Connections’ work possible, from community organizations and donors to families and caregivers who place their trust in our team.
“Senior Connections is a true beacon of hope and belonging in Boone County.” said Melissa Erickson, Executive Director of Boone County Community Foundation. “Through its beautiful facilities, outstanding programs, and compassionate services, the organization supports older adults by fostering connection, promoting independence, and filling each day with purpose and joy. Their work enriches thousands of lives and makes Boone County a brighter, better place. Our community is incredibly fortunate to have Senior Connections, and it comes as no surprise that they were chosen as the 2025 Excelsior and Excalibur Boone County Champion.”
“Our Board is proud of this recognition,” said Jeanine Woyner, Board Chair. “Senior Connections exists because of our shared commitment to service and stewardship. The Community Champion Award is a testament to the dedication of everyone involved, from volunteers and staff to community partners. We all believe that older adults deserve to feel supported, respected and connected to the community.”
Senior Connections extends heartfelt thanks to the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois for this honor, and to everyone who supports our mission. We remain committed to growing our impact and continuing to serve as a welcoming haven for seniors and caregivers in our community.
